about monyeka

hi, I go by Monyeka, it’s both my creative alias and the brand I’m building.

I’m a Chicago-based portrait photographer.

As a female photographer, I know how important it is to feel comfortable and guided during a session, and I create a relaxed space where you can be fully yourself.

I work with artists, models, small business owners, and everyday people who want portraits that feel true to them — not stiff, overly polished, or cookie-cutter. Whether you need headshots, branding photos, model digitals, or something a little more conceptual, I bring a clean, natural light style and an easy, collaborative process. You'll feel guided and seen every step of the way. so the photos not only look good, but feel like you.

Right now, it’s just me running things, but I’m slowly building toward something bigger: a studio space that offers not just photo shoots, but creative workshops and community experiences.

  • I’m a first-generation Mexican-American photographer creating portraits that feel elevated but still true to you. My work is relaxed, minimal, and a little dreamy, with just the right amount of realness.

I’m especially passionate about working with other first-gen entrepreneurs and creatives. There's something really powerful about helping others feel seen, celebrated, and proud of how far they’ve come. That’s a big part of why I do what I do.

  • The vibe is super laid back. I’ll guide you, but nothing’s too stiff or over-posed. We chat, we laugh, I’ll probably ask about your weekend or favorite food, and then we make something beautiful.

  • I actually started with photo editing and design. Eventually I picked up a camera because I wanted to create my own work. Editing is still my favorite part, especially seeing your photos go live in the wild after a shoot.

  • You can usually find me eating Korean food, scrapbooking, or walking my dog, Matcha. I’m always inspired by fashion, and I try to bring that same elevated, minimal feel into every shoot.
