From Them, Through Us is a portrait series honoring first-generation creatives. those of us living in the space between what our families gave up and what we’re trying to build.

Each person is photographed with their creative work and a meaningful object from their family’s homeland. Something small, but powerful. Something they’ve held onto. (e.g., a family heirloom, textile, utensil, book, etc.)

This project is for the ones who had to explain their dreams more than once. For the ones who felt torn between guilt and freedom. For anyone still figuring out how to honor where they’re from while becoming who they are.

We are not just the result of our families’ labor.
We’re the continuation of their dreams.
From them. Through us.
