Editorial Vampire-Inspired Photoshoot: Moody, Fashion-Forward, and Fun
This October, I decided to take a little creative detour and dive into something I’ve never done before—a spooky season-inspired photoshoot. I wanted to approach it with the same fashion-forward, editorial sensibility that I bring to all of my sessions, while keeping it moody, elevated, and a little bit mysterious.
For this shoot, we avoided the obvious Halloween tropes—no fake blood, no gaudy props, and nothing that would make it feel cheesy or costume-y. Instead, we leaned into clean, dramatic styling, letting the model’s hair, makeup, and wardrobe do the storytelling. Shooting entirely in natural light, with a few black and white v-flats to add depth and dimension, I then pushed the moodiness even further in post-processing, resulting in a series that feels timeless, edgy, and just a little bit haunting.
This shoot was also a reminder of how valuable it is to carve out space for experimental, “fun” sessions. When makeup artists, stylists, and models come together just to create, it sparks ideas, ignites energy, and keeps your creative muscles sharp. I left this shoot feeling more inspired than I have in a long time—and reminded of how much I thrive when surrounded by a creative community that lifts each other up and encourages experimentation.
I can’t wait to share the next spooky-inspired session I have coming up—it’s going to take this creative exploration even further. For anyone in Chicago looking for editorial photography or creative photoshoots, this is the kind of mood, energy, and artistry I love bringing to a session.
